This site chronicles Forest Grove High School's Viking House projects. The first Viking House was completed in 1975, and the students in the program have completed a new home or facility project every year since. The goal then is the same today, challenge students to rise and meet or exceed industry standards, on time, on budget, and with no excuses. Working closely with industry professionals, these outstanding students are building homes known for their classic details, quality workmanship, and energy efficiency. The Viking House program is self-funded. Look for our open houses each May or June.

He founded the Viking House Program and completed the first house 50 years ago.
He reached out in 1998, when Duane Mueller handed the program off to me, Chris Higginbotham. He offered his support, and encouraged me to put my own stamp on it.
I always felt a responsibility to him to not let it flounder. It was exciting when he visited the jobsite, usually at the open house. This photo is from 2022. It was always very gratifying and appreciated to hear him express his enthuiastic praise of the crew's accomplishment. The founder approved.
Duane and I had hoped to unite with Birt next month in celebration of the 50th year of the program. I am grateful that he lived to know we made it this far. RIP Mr. Birt Hansen. Your legacy lives on.
